We've Got Your Back (WGYB) is an initiative between FitnessLink and the [sameness] project, a social initiative that is all about erasing the lines that divide and facilitating moments of 'sameness' through online and offline initiatives. WGYB uses health and fitness as a vehicle to reach out to Dubai's taxi drivers - the guys that put in long hours, quite often 7 days a week, and certainly don't prioritize their health in the process.

With muscles being in one position for long periods of time and blood not having a chance to flow around the body, taxi drivers have a very high chance of developing health problems. So to help with this, we helped the awesome [sameness] team put together a neat booklet of five detailed stretches/exercises they can perform to combat the physical stresses of sitting stationary for long periods of time, while promoting long-term physical health and well-being.

Part of WGYB is taking the message to street-level where we engage with the drivers, providing them with the free WGYB booklet and talking them through the stretches/exercises. Fitness professionals are on hand to demonstrate the stretches to the drivers correctly and answer any questions they might have and, as it turns out, they have plenty!

FITNESS PROS, WE WANT YOU!

The WGYB street-level outings take place once every two weeks for around one hour. Having health and fitness professionals on hand is a huge part of the project as it not only means having expertise on hand to answer the drivers' queries, but it also allows the fitness industry to connect with a great project and spread the message of sameness. If you're a trainer, instructor or other fitness pro and would like to join us on an outing, please get in touch for a list of upcoming dates!
